Fix-it-Girl!

There is something so satisfying in fixing something that needs repaired. Coming from a family of do-it-yourselfers the feeling seems to come naturally. Due to the fact that our dad never had sons... we, my sister and I, were enlisted to help. I really enjoy helping and it is a great bonding time.

I can remember the first "home improvement project" I did. When I was around 5 years old I can remember holding a bucket for my dad under a faucet, it made me feel important, I felt pride, I couldn't wait to show my mom what "we fixed". I still get that same feeling every time I accomplish something around the house.

When we moved I put together the closet organization systems for the house. This past fall our garbage disposal finally died and we had to replace it. I talked my dad into getting the most expensive one (my mom really wanted it!). As Dad and I walked around the hardware store I can remember thinking "I am so blessed". I love spending time with him doing things. After we arrived at home that night he was caught up in a work phone call so I decided I would do it. I took out the old disposal and nearly finished putting in the new one by myself, Dad came to help me with the final part. I treasure these times spent together discussing the ins and outs of home repair.

Two Christmas' ago my parents gave me a book called Dare to Repair "A Do-It Herself Guide to Fixing (Almost) Anything in the Home". I love this book! IT IS AMAZING! So this week I decided our tub needed new sealant. The lady who lived in our house previously had done a pretty poor job and it molded no matter what. So... I read up, shopped and repaired!

Icky old sealant!
Removing old sealant!

Putting new sealant on!

All done!
Oh La la!

My dad doesn't know yet... I hope you are surprised daddy! Love you!

Kitchen organization is also in the works... and then maybe painting!

Amazing! I'm a huge fan of being a "Jackie-of-all-trades". :-)

(get it? instead of a jack-of-all-trades...i made it feminine? hehe)
